Best National Press Release--Bell Ringer Award

Our submission described the writing, dissemination and results of a national press release about a vaccine to prevent dental cavities—which are of epidemic proportions in many parts of the world. The release was written by Anita Harris on behalf of The Forsyth Institute--a Boston research organization focused on oral and craniofacial science. The release, dated June 28, 2001, garnered worldwide media coverage; educated the public about the infectious nature of dental disease; increased the visibility of the client, and enhanced funding and corporate partnership opportunities for the researchers.

Community Service Campaign--Merit Award

The Forsyth Insitute was originally founded in 1910 to provide free dental care for Boston schoolchildren. Although Forsyth has since changed its focus to scientific research, it has not lost sight of its original public health mission. In July 2001, Forsyth embarked on a campaign to find some half -a-million former patients. A key goal was to enlist their support for a multi-facted program aimed at stemming the current crisis in children’s oral health. So far, the novel campaign has included free and paid media, an event, the launch of a research center, and followup communications—with highly successful results. Anita Harris helped Forsyth  research and develop the overall campaign, and was soley responsible for  designing and executing its media rellations outreach components.
